Health Visitors
Health Visitors are qualified nurses who have undertaken specialist training in order to support families with young children. Their role is to work with families to identify their and their child’s health needs and to help give them the best possible start in life through implementation of the Healthy Child Programe 0 to 5.

Carlisle Rural Sure Start Children’s Centre delivers a variety of services and activities at various locations in the local community.
Children's Audiology
Depending on how old your child is, they might ask a few questions about your child's hearing and any related conditions they might have. They might also do a few different hearing tests during your appointment.
Conditions they help you manage are permanent hearing loss, speech or language difficulties, temporary hearing loss due to conditions like glue ear or tinnitus. You can also self-refer your child by contacting the team below.
Children's Community Nursing
A specialist nursing team who provide care to children and young people. They deliver most of their services in people's homes. They also work in nurseries, schools, and local clinics. If you’re involved in the care of a child or young person, you can self-refer them to this service by downloading and completing a referral form.
Child Development
The multidisciplinary team are able to help children and young people with a range of health and developmental problems. These include children with a diagnosed disability, chronic illness and special or complex needs. They can also help those who have fallen behind or their developmental milestones. You can self-refer by contacting your local Child Development Centre.
Children's Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapists help children and young people who have difficulty doing everyday activities. This can be things like getting dressed, school work or playing. Your child can be referred to this service by any social care, education or medical professional. You can also self-refer by downloading and completing a referral form.
Children's Physiotherapy
The Children’s Physiotherapy team help to restore movement and function when someone is affected by injury, illness or disability. Some of the conditions we help you manage are: sports injuries, congenital disorders, neurological conditions, neuromuscular disorders and more.
Your child can be referred to this service by their school or by any health professional. You can also self-refer by downloading and completing a referral form
Children's Speech and Language Therapy
They work with children and young people up to the age of 19 who have speech, language or communication needs. They can also help if your child has difficulties with eating, drinking or swallowing. You can self-refer your child to this service by downloading and completing a referral form.
